Leadership – The Importance of Knowing

It is solid to say at this point, leadership is more about getting results than it is about leadership skills and abilities.

Too many people are susceptible to the idea that leadership is all about the act of control. This is not the case. Your goal should never be to have control over your team or employees, it is about enabling them with the proper tools and knowledge necessary to increase productivity.

Ready to face a hard truth? You’re the reason your business is failing.

You’re the reason your team can’t seem to produce the results that you know they are capable of. For most, there are three critical mistakes that’s keeping you from driving productivity and it all revolves around your lack of proper goals. If you really want to transform your business concepts into innovations, your focus should be on achieving your desired results by any means. In order to find out more about what actions will create your desired results, ask yourself, are you becoming ingrained with more of what you have been taught leadership is or what will drive real results? Try these results driving leadership tips that will help you within your business.

Guidance is Key

Despite popular belief that leadership is all about control, it is actually more so about finding, gaining, and holding onto reliable connections with those who are working with them. Your employees are not people to be looked down upon, they should be looked at as valuable assets to your business.

That means you should approach your leadership role as you would any other business endeavor…with respect. When leaders move away from being a confrontational leader to one who can direct and guide, they can drive more results.

Confrontation can cause your team to shut down, while guidance will allow your team to flourish, increasing productivity. In the process, the leader can gain patience from those they guide by passing along knowledge that could also be a reminder for themselves. It keeps them in tune with their team so they can provide the tools, resources and support that their team needs.

Knowledge is Power

A more significant way leaders give up their fullest potential is that they avoid constantly learning new things. As a result, their knowledge and intelligence may inherently decrease which can cause problems with guiding your teams.

The fact is, there are too many idiots out there who think they can run a successful business simply because they have the money or better yet, they went to college. Newsflash, the learning doesn’t stop there. The greatest entrepreneurs keep up with the times and continuously sharpen their skills so that they can easily pivot in the face of adversity.  If you cannot find something that is inherent in your knowledge and intelligence that is true, they may not be getting the full value out of the intellectual capital you have invested.

If your team understands the value of social media and you’re still stuck on how effective newspapers were 20 years ago, then your business will be screwed.

Objectivity is Truth

Personal beliefs need to be left at the door when it comes to your business. It can create too much conflict. For instance, the personal belief system in which the leader believes in may look very different from other members on the team. Many people are not so willing, or open, to compromise on their personal beliefs which can get in the way of the job that needs to be done.

Take Netflix for instance. A prime example is happening right before our eyes. Their employees are protesting because of their personal beliefs on the LGBTQ community and transphobia. However, this behavior is only seen as acceptable by the employees because of their company’s repeated instances of letting personal beliefs control the way they conduct business. For instance, their constant political bias in favor of the democratic agenda. This protest has caused a rift in the employee, leadership relationship, thus impacting Netflix’s overall value. When the company’s overheads stay objective when it comes to the job and the rest of the team will follow suit thus in return driving better results.

While leaders are not always the greatest thinkers, they must know how to play their role. Those who don’t tend to make the arbitrary mistakes by not taking heed to the tips above. If you want your business to see real results, lead your team with guidance, knowledge and objectivity.

Leadership is much more than establishing “control.” It is about driving the whole team to success.
